WLSP is the approved provider of Bikeability training to around 50 Primary and Secondary schools across the Borough. Funded by the Department for Transport, training promotes cycling as a fun, safe and environmentally friendly way of travel and is delivered by a team of National Standard Instructors with many years of cycling experience.
The programme, delivered over a three day period gives trainees the opportunity to complete both the Level 1 and 2 Award.
Level 1 sees trainees learn how to control and master their bike, looking at starting and stopping a journey, manoeuvring past obstacles and controlling the bike with one hand. The training takes place in a traffic free environment.
Level 2 takes place on local streets, giving a real cycling experience. Trainees observe how to deal with traffic and any potential hazards they may face when on the road.
The programme engenders enthusiasm while building skills and confidence to cycle more safely, more often.
Once training is complete trainees are encouraged to continue and enjoy their cycling!
